ZOOM who gives up on Safety & Security of people can be referred to as an Opportunist?
In our earlier blog, we have highlighted the significance of work from home via Remote Access.
Work from home plays a very crucial role in day-to-day business operations. It definitely balances out the work-life ratio. But to make this happen, one needs certain tools to help you stay connected.
Ever thought what if these tools, instead of simplifying things, carry the potential to harm personal information?
One such tool is Zoom!!!
Since quite some time now, Zoom has been into multiple controversies. Right from leaking personal data to having encryption issues. It does not guarantee safety for multiple reasons-known and unknown. At times, cases are filed against them. However, they deny such happenings taking place. Multiple sources use Zoom as a case study to showcase the kind of complications this application can create and, thereby, how to switch to the better ones that provide outright security.
If we only have to imagine that the conversation happening among 2 people does not remain between them but is read by others as well.
Does this give you a sigh of relief???? We guess not!!!
So, let’s look at the detailed picture of the potential threats found in Zoom.
Selling personal data
Selling not for monetary purposes but sharing personal data for business purposes.
Sharing personal data
Privacy experts found Zoom to have shared privacy rights with third-party marketers.
Not using end-to-end encryption
End-to-end encryption is a system of communication where only communicating users can read the messages. In simple words, other parties who are not intended to read the messages cannot read these messages.
Software corruption
Does have anti-tampering mechanisms. The downfall is that these mechanisms are themselves not protected from tampering. The faulty anti-tampering mechanism which can be disabled or replaced with hostile versions that can hijack the application.
Zoombombing
A default feature wherein anyone who has access to the URL of a public call can share a screen with the participants of a call. It does not ask for the permission of the call’s host. This has led to multiple trolls sharing the irrelevant/disturbing content.
Meeting chat
No chats in Zoom’s meeting window remain confidential. This means that if you are in a Zoom meeting and you use a private window in the chat’s app to communicate privately with another person, the conversation no longer remains private.
Misuse of ID
Every Zoom call has a randomly generated ID number between 9 and 11 digits long. This is used by the participants to gain access to the meeting. However, it is found that these ID’s are not difficult to guess, thus, allowing anyone to get into these meetings.
Disclosure of email address
Everyone sharing the same email domain are put into the same folder thus making confidential information like profile photos, email addresses visible.
Knowing these and the impact it could cause, let’s now get down to an application that has much more to offer – safety, security, intact personal information, simple and easy to understand AND staying connected as and when required without having the fear of your personal details going around for a toss.
